Responsibilities within the Personal Tutorial System
 
PERSONAL TUTOR ENTITLEMENT

As a Personal Tutor you are entitled to:

  • a manageable number of students to tutor

  • time to fulfil the tutorial role, i.e. timetabled sessions for tutorials not be available at all times. Students must accept that you cannot be expected to drop everything at a moment’s notice to deal with a problem

  • support from your Director, Deputy Director, and administrative staff to enable you to fulfill your role

  • appropriate staff development

  • access to resource material

  • appropriate accommodation

 

Assistant/ Deputy Director Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Deputy Director are:

  • to assist the Director in ensuring good student support and discipline within the curriculum area.

 

  • to support Personal Tutors within the curriculum area in:

    • dealing with persistent problems regarding student attendance, work rate and discipline, including managing disciplinary meetings at written warning stages

    • monitoring reviews and evaluation of progress

    • delivering the Personal Tutor programmes

    • monitoring quality including checking tutor files and records, internally verifying student induction files, checking student attendance and participation, and undertaking Personal Tutor observations

    • involvement with admissions and guidance

 

The Deputy Director is directly responsible to her/his Director or Head of Curriculum

 

 

Director - Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Directors are to:

  • identify staff to carry out the role of Personal Tutor within their Directorate

  • support Assistant/ Deputy Directors, Personal Tutors  with academic and pastoral issues related to students deal with persistent problems relating to student attendance, attitude, work rate and discipline, including managing disciplinary hearings at final warning and serious misconduct stages

  • monitor reviews and evaluate progress

  • ensure consistency in the quality of the Personal Tutor provision, e.g. references for employment/H.E., reports

  • liaise with all parties involved e.g. Personal Tutors, parents/guardians, employers and external agencies as appropriate.

 

The Director is directly responsible to the appropriate Vice Principal/Deputy Principal.

 

Director of Quality, Learning and Student Experience - Responsibilities

The main responsibilities are to

  • ensure initial resource materials are made available.

  • review and evaluate the Programme which is then reflected in future planning.

  • develop an effective personal tutoring programme for our learners across the wide range of programmes and learning environments of College
