STUDENT ATTENDANCE & ATTITUDE - GUIDELINES ON PROCEDURES

In order to eliminate prolonged absenteeism/poor attitude to work the procedure detailed below MUST be followed by the Personal Tutor..

As soon as an issue arises relating to attendance and/or attitude the matter must be discussed with the student; as a result the student may be issued with a verbal warning and action plan. This should be recorded by the Directorate Team. This begins the disciplinary process for this student and following this, the student should be monitored according to this process.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is compulsory for ALL timetabled sessions including, group tutorials and individual interviews arranged with Personal Tutors.

1. During induction students will be informed by their Personal Tutor that the College must be notified of absenteeism · by reporting their absence on the app before 9.15 a.m.

2. Information on student absenteeism received will be logged. Students who haven't reported their absence will be texted at the end of the day. If a student is under 19, their parent will get a text, if we have contact details.

3. Each week Personal Tutors must check the absence reports for their tutor group on EBS.

4. As soon as any worrying pattern of absence from lessons emerges:

  • the course/subject tutor will, where possible, discuss the situation with the student to identify and attempt to resolve the problem and explain the consequences if such a pattern continues, such as sending letters home so as to inform parents/guardians, contract between the College and Student formalising an agreed course of action/

  • any tutor who is unaware of reasons for student absence or is concerned about attendance must liaise with the Personal Tutor.
