Smoking - The Facts

Smoking kills more people than any other single cause of death.

  • For every smoker who dies, another 20 are suffering from a smoking related illness.

  • If you smoke, your unborn baby smokes too.

  • If you start smoking when you're 15, your risk of developing the cell mutations that lead to cancer in later life doubles compared to starting smoking at 20.

Roll-ups expose smokers to 4,000 toxic chemicals – many of which are cancer causing and poisonous.

Some of the chemicals in a cigarette and a roll-up:

  • Cadmium – highly poisonous metal used in batteries

  • Formaldehyde – highly poisonous and used to preserve dead bodies

  • Ammonia – found in strong cleaning fluids

  • Benzene – used as a solvent in fuel

  • Cyanide – industrial pollutant

  • Arsenic – deadly poison found in insecticides

An electronic cigarette can contain as much nicotine as a regular cigarette -- or more.  It is not really known what long term effects 'vaping' will have but health professionals warn that nicotine is a dangerous and so e-cigarettes will have a long term health risk for users with possible lung damage.
