INDUCTION

Croeso Yn Ol i Goleg!            Welcome Back to College!

This is an important year for you, as this year your Personal Tutor will guide you towards your next steps, which will probably be:

  • moving into higher education

  • finding an apprenticeship

  • getting a full time job leading to a career

Personal Tutors should check that all students know their timetable.

Students who have not received a copy of their timetable for this academic year or who wish to make changes to their programme of study should be directed to Student Services.

Coleg Cambria Code of Conduct

As a group discuss this and the rules which the College expects you to abide by.

Also, discuss what happens if:

  • You are too ill to come to College

  • You miss class

  • You are late to class

  • You don't hand in work on time and fall behind with your learning

Support for you:

  • How you can access extra help for your learning if you have additional learning needs

  • How you can access study skills help

  • How you can access student support services

  • Who you talk to if you have a problem about your safety and wellbeing?

Just like last year, it's really important that all students and teachers agree the basic ground rules of College learning.

All learners are expected to:

  • Attend all personal tutorial sessions. Attendance is compulsory and monitored.

  • Be punctual

  • Be prepared to honestly discuss your progress

  • Be prepared to talk to your tutor about issues which may be affecting your College life as soon as they arise

  • Take part in tutorial activities

Your personal tutor will have to comment on these things in any reference required for employment or further learning.

Student Support Questionnaire

This has been designed to identify factors which could result in a student being “at risk” of leaving courses/College early and therefore having a greater need for support. Complete it and share it with your personal tutor.

Use the information to help you develop your initial action plan and consider the balancing of time to study with all the other pressures of life.

What Kind of Learning Will You Undertake at Coleg Cambria?

Have a look at this document. It describes the types of learning we expect for all learners at College.

Discuss your experiences of learning at the College last year and what you have learned about the differences between learning at College and at school.

  • Knowing what you know now about your studies and College work, how do you intend to approach this year of learning?

  • Make a list of things which will help you to approach this year's studies more effectively and share as a class.

Below is a list of all the great apps we think may well be essential for your learning at College. They are all free.

  • Discuss what other apps really help learning e.g. reading apps, note taking apps and other subject specific apps to help you learn.
