ACTIVITIES

Term 1
September & October

Week 4 & 5:  Finding a Goal and Keeping Focussed

How focussed are you on a goal? Do you know where you want to go to in your career?

Or are you drifting along with no direction?

  • Having a focus, even if it is what skills you enjoy and want to develop further, can really help your motivation to succeed and do well.

  • You will need to fix on your next steps very quickly, as by the spring term, you will need to consider what university course, apprenticeship pathway or career you want to pursue.

1. Research - Watch this life lesson video with Oprah and Jim Carrey. Discuss what Oprah means by 'visualisation' and how she explains the path to achieve your goals.

Reflect - could this approach work for you?

Sometimes there can be so many options and paths that you need to choose one but know the skills you learn along the way will enable you to switch goals if you decide after all that it's not for you.

2. Having a goal makes you determined and hungry for success. You clearly also need to enjoy what you do. Watch this video about Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and discuss the messages about Mark that you can take forward in your life.

3. Look again at your initial action plan and the goals you set for this year and revise them if necessary.

  • How focussed are you on a goal?

  • Do you know what you are passionate about and enjoy doing?

  • Can you visualise what success might look like for you?

  • Do you know what you need to do and the steps you need to take to get there?

  • Does your initial action plan and course fit with these goals?

  • Which tips in these videos were useful to you planning your next steps?

  • What are the things could stop you from doing well in College?

  • How can you work around these barriers to help you do well?

4. Research for yourself the secrets to success. Find a person who is successful and find the elements of their story that helped them to focus and achieve their goals. Present and share this with the group.

In Induction we showed you our Equality and Diversity Charter. We are very serious about trying to make Coleg Cambria a place where everyone feels welcome and safe.

Look at the Charter again and discuss how you feel about the things mentioned?
