Week 4 & 5: Developing Good Learning Habits - Resilience and Focus 

What does the word 'resilience' mean? Discuss as a group. Can you think of people or examples of resilience?

 

 

  • Think about a time when you failed at something.

  • How did you feel? What did you learn?

  • Did you give up or were you resilient?

  • Discuss this as a group.

 

 

1. Research - Watch this video and discuss who this person is and how with resilience and focus you can succeed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Find out more about Duncan's life here... how he turned his life around to become successful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Discuss what qualities Chris Evans and Duncan Bannatyne have in common? 

 

4. Think about a time when you were determined to do well and how you had the focus to achieve something.  How can you use these skills to do well on your course?

 

5. Discuss the barriers Duncan Bannatyne faced?

  • How did Duncan manage to work around these?  

  • How did this help him to achieve.

6. Look again at your initial action plan and the goals you set for this year.

7. Watch this short video. Then discuss: 

  • How on track are you to do well at College?

  • Which tips in this video were useful to help you stay on track? why?

  • What are the things could stop you from doing well in College?

  • How can you work around these barriers to help you do well?

8. With your tutor, as a group,  discuss the things you could try when you're stuck to get unstuck (Resilience).
